Well, this may be a tad late for the christmas tree, but technically it's not because you can just print off the explanation of the gift !
I love these ideas and would love to be a recipient of these, who wouldn't! Now which to choose from for others....

every woman has her shade of red
LIPS! people. I mean lipstick.
I am not a big wearer of make up. Work does not see it, nor do my house pets if I am sticking around home. I only really apply make up for an evening out. By evening out.. I mean the movie theater usually does not qualify for eye liner.
However, a recent comment on Reddit reminded me of my special shade of red lipstick. Every girl has her shade, unfortunatly many girls do not seem not confident enough to wear it. The secret is.... Every girl can wear red lipstick. There is a shade for each of you. Search it out!
A few years back I was hell bent on a mission to find my shade, and 4 lipsticks later, I found one that made me feel right. Marcelle Rouge vitality 370 vintage red:
I wore this shade out for half a year, even to the movie theater. Now I pull it out slightly less, but damit, everytime I love putting it on.
I am now facing the possibility after a realization my stick is tragically nearing the end of it's life and a very brief internet search, I may be faced with the task yet again to replace my red with a new 'my red', as Marcelle Vintage red might indeed be discontinued.
Sephora is opening up in regina....this could be fun!

she's taking on water mates
And so it goes, my Christmas decorating aspirations have been corrected. Instead, I am 3 days into enjoying an excursion at La hospital Pasqua in a private suite (a free upgrade from the hallway bed), awaiting a special activity called "cholecystitis" also known as removing my gall bladder. Useless piece of tissue, thanks for the help GB -no help. . On the menu since tuesday is Nil per Os. (nothing to eat for those of you who arn't speechies). (today is saturday).
I must admit, though I work with people in acute care, I have a new appreciation for my patients who I have to recommend NPO with, and I have never actually stayed over night in a hospital before, no have I ever had an IV line, or surgery I'm kind of close to being a big baby over it all., but from the sounds of it, my system malfunctioning was about to be getting real...as in real big problems (jaundice, pancreatitis,.) had I not come to this.
I have unfortunatly been too nauseous to knit, but I understand I will have recovery time at home where I expect knitting will be the perfect companion....provided I have some runners to get me yarn...(any volunteers??
positive: my surgeon assures me she has done over 300 of these surguries.
negative: my surgeon assures me I am her first ever patient with choledocholithiasis
(It is the stones in the common bile duct shared with your pancreatic duct that really fuck one up a tree)

Step 1. Mail is not email
I think I need to book an entire weekend to do Christmas cards. Locating physical addresses may indeed be a forgotten skill. Getting these to the postal box (is that what it is called? I can't remember) is an ambitious goal. I think I need to break this down into 10 tiny objectives so the speech pathologist in me doesn't have a panic attack...

kick it into christmas
Yes folks, characteristically, the busier I am = the busier I want to be.
This means, this year I am going all in for christmas. Big intentions. Big. BIG intentions. ..........
...... to do christmas cards. and to decorate. and to knit (a couple gifts). and to bake. and to be suzy sort of homemaker in honor of this new 2013 novel idea in my life called "routine". I'll try it on for a bit. See how it fits.
Just in case I get the "so...hows that going for you (snicker)" comment, I am going to shoot even higher and proclaim I will try to keep my xmas tribulations and failures posted on the blog. At this point I would score it
+2 Randi (gift finds)
+1Grinch (due to Bijou's not so festive chocolate stocking stuffer encounter)
With Christmas craft and artisan shows every weekend in preparation for christmas, I stopped by Sask craft council's Wintergreen this afternoon. I went to Our best to you last weekend, but I definitely like wintergreen better. More local high quality jewelry and pottery/woodworking, nice artistry. I picked up an absolutely stunning piece of jewelry for Rhett's mom from local artist Megan Hazel ,... though the piece is not on the site and I am not going to post a picture of it right now... just in case. Well, maybe I'll think about it.
edit, ok here it is:
time get busy!

baby it's cold outside
It only seems fitting Saskatchewan should have a mid afternoon hibernation routine once the snow hits. The south has siestas, the north should also shut down for at LEAST 2 hours. In Thailand, people didn't seem to start moving until 5pm, when the sun looses the harsh heat of the day. Clearly, this only reiterates the opposite in Saskatchewan, where movement should not begin until the sun has risen in the morning....which is any time between 9 and 10 am in the winter. I'll add an extra clause: stay under a blanket on the couch with a cup of coffee in hand until the snow plows and sanders have finished.
here ye.
What am I working on. I am completing two firsts at the moment and I would say it is going "meh". I am doing my first fair-isle pattern and my first pattern modification in one project. Unfortunatly I was slightly too lazy to figure out how to carry the yarn when the fair isle is only on one side of the project so there is going to be alot of loose yarn on the inside. This is the key... the inside. Because it is not to be worn by anyone except for a hot water bottle, this should cause no distress to anyone except for said water bottle.
I fell in love with the idea of water bottle cozies after reading a previously mentioned book "A life in stitches: knitting my way from love, loss and laughter" by Rachael Herron. Everything involved in the word COZY has become my favorite word in Life.

the furnace humms on
hmmm......
It seems as though the entire posting process has changed. I feel like I am writing in GoogleDocs now and I'm not sure how I like this...
I am home from the dentist after a week of a lovely little GI bug. ow. Restricted to my own company because I can't move my jaw enough to really talk (or unfortunately eat the half finished soft taco smelling up my purse) There is nothing that makes me want to knit more than sitting under a blanket, looking outside at the cold scene, smelling the rhum chaud beure candle, and hearing the soft hum of the furnace kicking in.
This should inspire me to start on my hot waterbag cozy, but I need to address the unfinished shawl/scarf staring me in the face with it's fall colours before the snow falls.
I should mention. I finished reading the first good knitting "novel" I've found. I should preface with this by saying all those novels like "friday night knitting club"..... I'm sorry, they are Shit. Just because I'm a chick doesn't give those books a free pass. I mean, come on. I DO however, recommend a book called " A life in stitches." by blogger yarnagogo. This book is absolutly a warm, fuzzy, inspirational, writers account of some life experiences and meaningful reflections on projects that has brought her through the years.
Read it!!
i also want to add a really good post Completely Unrelated to above blahblahs. I think these are really good insights that anyone in a relationship can have difficulty with at any point in time. http://www.danoah.com/2012/10/16-ways-i-blew-my-marriage.html

excuses excuses
Yes, it has been awhile.
I hope to put some more time into posting some photos of what I have been doing in the last month over the next few days.
It is truly astonishing how long it takes to 'settle in' to life's routines.
I don't think anyone reads this blog anyway though, so no love lost I'm sure :)
I shall adjourn for now, and call back again later. In the mean time, Neil DeGrasse Tyson says:

starks and rainbows
birthday cake time,
I've been wanting to go all rainbow style for awhile, so this is the objective.
http://www.omnomicon.com/rainbowcake
though the icing will be different.
In honour of the game of thrones marathon birthday, I'm sure " brace yourself.. 40 is coming" will suffice.
Will update with the finished product in a week.

Perhaps I am dreaming to think I will have the freedom from a new career to attend burning man this year, but if you build it, they will come,... or something like that.

I digress!
fabulous idea for all us in small spending situations to artify some areas of the home without resorting to mass crap. Seems like an extension on art trading cards but equally as awsome. For $60 bucks a year you get a new artist print each month. Canadian artists and different media formats are showcased from month to month.

Geek alert I am about to talk about gaming. (knitting)
I finally stepped through my wall of " I'll start my socks next week" and started again. But I am having a bit of trouble with a backwards yarnover...I can't find any tutorials and I'm not sure if I am supposed to end up with 'two stitches' like a regular YO......or how it even differs from a yo. gah. and when I purl, my YO's only seem to have one 'stitch as a result'. Also I don't know if I am to count the pairs as one or two stitches in my total added on for the shortrow.
Little patience, mmm yeah, mm yeah
Need a little patience, yeah
Just a little patience, yeah
Some more patience, yeah
Could use some patience, yeah
Gotta have some patience, yeah
All it takes is patience
Just a little patience
Is all you need (background vocals).

speaking of mittens..
I would love to get my hands on some qiviut. I remember Stuart Mclean (vinyl cafe) mention receiving a pair of qiviut mittens and commenting how he only 'tried them on from time to time' so as not to loose the coveted pair.
Qiviut (pronounced "kiv-ee-ute"), the downy-soft underwool from the Arctic musk ox, is shed naturally each year during the spring months. Eight times warmer than wool and extraordinarily lightweight, Qiviut is one of the finest natural fibers known to man. http://www.qiviut.com/
and word has it the softness and warmth is incomparable,,... thus this magical spun is tres expensive. (60 euro for 50 grams.)
Well, .... Perhaps purchasing a muskox and harvesting my own bank would be the more economical way to go? I'm sure mom and dad could use a muskox to hold the farm down too...

wonders never cease.
It's amazing how less apt you are to loose your mittens when you've knitted them. Well.... unsurprising If I really think about it. Can I also knit my keys, my hair elastics, and my ipod?
oh.
