Whilst studying adolescent language tonite, I came to a most horrid realization.
The World Health Organization defines the following:
youth 15-24 years
young people 10-24 years.
.....*
so, that's it then. I have long left my youth, behind. I am officially no longer a young person and have not been for years..
I am, however, also not old enough to express my disdain in a mid-life crisis.
oh, what is a girl to do?
I thought adolescence was until 27? Interesting.
ReplyDeletei think i heard somewhere that they (whomever "they" is) were going to increase the age of adolescence because people were staying in school/at home/etc for longer and longer
ReplyDeleteThis might have been a conversation we had Rhett. When i was dating Shanti she was in some psych class and she fed me this bit of information. Her text at the time said 27. Then again maybe she was just bashing me that heartless wench. :)
ReplyDeleterob... 'adolescence' is 11 to 21. as defined by WHO. but they also found the need to further define 'young people', which is probably just some bitter old republican's revenge against today's generation.
ReplyDeleterhett: they can't redefine adolescence simply on social practices, keep in mind this varies from culture to culture. Adolescence is primarily defined based on the biological/physiological changes, conceptualization, executive processing and brain development.
ReplyDeleteyou can define a word however you want actually... you just need consensus - and that's the tricky part
